I got a pattern from Country Sampler that has table runners for each month of the year. I have made 3 of them so far. This is the one I made for Halloween. It is a great way to use up scraps and also a great excuse to buy more fabric. As if I need an excuse.

All Quacked Up

We had our annual Great Duck Race at Children’s on Thursday. This year we used the theme of Operation for our duck entry. This is the game board that I created. We renamed the parts so they were more “ducklike”. We didn’t win any prizes, but our Operation Game Board was mentioned in the Omaha World Hearld’s coverage of the event. There are more pictures on my flickr page. The little duck on the game board is the one we used in the race. His name is Drake. He is the surgeon.

I found this when I cleaned out some drawers in my Craft Room. It is a countertop waiter. He holds a chalkboard where you can write the menu for the day, etc. I painted a couple of chefs similar to this one and gave to a couple of people. This fancy French waiter I have named Claude. (Not to be confused with our uncle – note his tie does not light up.) I think he turned out OK.

Last year I saw some interesting scissor protectors and researched them on the web and found out that they were $35. I don’t like to spend money on something I can make myself. So I bought Sculpey clay and glaze and searched through my drawer of beads and came up with these things. They remind me of something from Dr. Suess. I use a couple of them to protect the ends of my paper cutting scissors, the ones I use for Scherenschnitte. But they look cute just hanging from a purse or tote bag. I don’t know why I made so many of them. But anyway, it was a fun craft. I would have like them better if I had made them a little smaller. Also some of my scissors have thick handles on them and it makes them a little harder to attach the whatzit. Take a look:

Let’s Paint the Kitchen

We can never just paint a room. It always turns out to be a major remodeling project. We started out painting and it has lead to a new table, new ceiling fan, new coffee pot and repainting the spice cabinet. (This will be another post as it is not finished yet.) We are also comtemplating a new stove and microwave. And why not add a new floor while we are at it. I am not getting much crafting done when I have to clean. We cleaned out all the cupboards and found some stuff that has survived since Ames Avenue! There are some additional pictures in Clips and Snips. Notice that I am either behind the season or 9 months ahead as the Christmas china is still in the cabinet. Sew What!!

Diane has been laid up recovering from foot surgery on both feet. I wanted to get her a little Get Well gift and thought that one of those edible bouquets would be great. I looked them up on the web and holy cow they are expensive. Of course, I figured I could make one myself and this is what I came up with. It has strawberries, oranges, green and red grapes, pineapple chunks, watermelon and Reese’s peanut butter hearts. I used parsley to fill in the blank spaces. I did not think it turned out too bad for a frist attempt. And is sure didn’t cost me $45 to make! Diane said it tasted pretty good too.

Bead Dazzled

I have done some cross stitch in my time. Mostly on cloth. But I do love these little ornaments that I made for my Easter tree. They are done on perforated paper. Glass beads make the “stitches” instead of thread. I think old fashioned flower baskets are really neat. The kits are from Mill Hill. These are older kits from the 90′s I think. Something for the Little People

I like quilting. I think it is the piecing I enjoy more than the quilting. So I have made some miniature quilts. They are not as time consuming. This is the one for St. Pat’s Day. A simple piece with machine quilting. Notice that I have also made Lucy in miniature as well. (Except for that hidious bow!)
